Pinguelo, Chair of the firm’s Cyber Security & Data Protection and eDiscovery groups, has been selected as a Fulbright Specialist to lecture from September 15th-28th by the Mackenzie Presbyterian University College of Law at its São Paulo and Campinas campuses, Brazil. Pinguelo’s lectures will focus on cyber law, doing business in the U.S., and intellectual property laws from the U.S. perspective in the context of Brazilian laws, policies, and initiatives.
For example, Pinguelo will address the Obama Administration’s February 2014 launch of its Cybersecurity Framework, which was the result of a year-long private-sector led effort to develop a voluntary how-to guide for organizations in the critical infrastructure community to enhance their cybersecurity; and Brazil’s recent enactment of Marco Civil or The Internet Legal Framework law that deals with the regulation of Brazilian cyberspace and establishes principles and rights for internet users and also details responsibilities for access and application providers in addition to the government in the virtual environment.
In conjunction with leading its Cyber Security & Data Protection practice group, Fernando Pinguelo is also co-Chair of Scarinci Hollenbeck’s Crisis and Risk Management Group. He has garnered both a national and international reputation as one of the pioneers of the emerging practices of cyber law and electronic discovery. Several local, national, and international syndications have recognized or otherwise profiled Pinguelo for his work, including Law Technology News, who identified him as one of the few U.S.-based attorneys with advanced experience in managing privacy and security issues.
Pinguelo devotes his law practice to complex litigation with an emphasis on cyber security, data privacy, international law, and crisis management.
